A Little Bit About Paul Knauer & Sonshine Weddings
My Core Values
This Is My Story
Everyone has a story.
I hope to hear yours when we meet. In the meantime, here’s my story.
I was born in Papua New Guinea (PNG) to career missionary parents, Hans and Friedle Knauer, who went to PNG in 1955 with the Liebenzell Mission, a non-denominational faith mission whose goal is to bring the love of God in Jesus Christ to all people through various ministeries.
It was a wonderful childhood for me growing up on a tropical island, Manus Island, with beautiful sandy beaches, a wide variety of colourful fish and coral reefs, rivers filled with crocodiles and dense jungles inhabited with a great variety of crawling insects, magnificent butterflies, frogs, eels, snakes, tree climbing possums, wild pigs, flying foxes, and the most fabulous of tropical parrots and bird species one could ever imagine. For a boy, truly a paradise to discover and explore!
We left Papua New Guinea in 1969 and landed in Toronto, where my father became the Pastor at the Willowdale Evangelical Mission Church. After completing high school at Newtonbrook Secondary School in North York, I ended up going to Western University in London graduating with two Bachelor Degrees in Science (1980) and Education (1981). With ambitions toward educational administration, I completed a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration (1989) from Grace Schools, Warsaw, Indiana. In 1994, I took a sabbatical from my teaching career to complete my Master of Divinity (1996) degree from Ontario Theological Seminary (now Tyndale University and College) Toronto. Currently, and for the last 13 years, I am serving as Chaplain providing emotional and non-denominational spiritual care support for residents, families and staff at two local Long Term Care Homes: McGarrell Place and Dearness Home, both in London, Ontario. My wife and I attend the Komoka United Church, a small loving and growing congregation currently unable to employ a full time minister. It is my privilege to be scheduled on many Sundays to bring an inspirational message and lead in worship. If you are not attending any church at the moment, there is an open invitation to join us at the Komoka United Church, 110 St. Lawrence Street in Komoka – Sundays at 10 am. We have a Sunday School for the kids, so bring them along and plan to stay for refreshments following the service.
Everyone has a story and everyone should have a meaningful purpose in life. My life goal is to encourage individuals such as yourself to think along three basic lines of thought: that God is a personal God, and that HE very much cares about you and what happens in your life. God wants a relationship with you, in which He knows you and you know Him; that God is in control, and the things that are out of your control are not out of His control; that you cannot control the things that happen to you, but with God’s guidance, you can control your response to life’s challenges and live a purpose and valued life.
I enjoy travelling, reading and woodworking, however, my most recent leisure activities has been singing in the Lyra Choir at the German Canadian Club, scuba diving in the Caribbean and taking voice lessons. I enjoy life and do my best to bring laughter and smiles to others.
I am married to Claire since 1982, and we are still going strong. We have two wonderful young men in Michael (Mandy) and David (Kelsey). Life is good; we look forward to being grandparents. So, that’s my story. And I am excited to meet you and look forward to hearing your story.
I have officiate at over 400 weddings, so the experience and creativity is there. My ceremonies are fun, casual yet elegant, simple and personalized to your wishes. You, your family and friends are up for a good time of celebration, so let’s make it happen.
